Web Design is the process of creating a website design from scratch. Once a design is approved by the client, a web designer then develops, or ‘codes’ the site to be read by a web browser.

How are The Two Related?

Web designers have a great deal of influence over how search engines interact with your website and in turn how well your website will preform in web searches. The single largest factor they control is the coding language they choose to use when developing your site. This is followed by the ‘page titles’ they implement on your site as well as the metadata tags they use.

What to Ask a Web Design Company Before Signing?

Does the company use CSS coding in their websites? If they don’t, find another web design company. CSS is the simplest coding language for search engines to read and understand.

Does the company have a proven track record of good SEO results?

Ask your web design firm to provide some statistics from previous clients. A good SEO portfolio is as important when deciding on a web design company as the design portfolio. There is little sense in having the best looking website if no one can find it.

Has the company asked enough questions about your business?

This is important as the web design company will be inserting the ‘page titles’ into your site. ‘Page titles’ are a very important element in determining what search terms search engines will likely rank you highly in. If the web design company doesn’t understand what your business does, its unlikely they will get the ‘page titles’ correct.
